Network Discovery

WebWorkstation

Network Discovery gives ZynoRMM technicians a recent view of managed wired networks and the devices observed on them. It is designed for troubleshooting and endpoint location, not as a permanent asset register or a vulnerability report.

Manager Access required

All authorized technicians can review discovery information. Only ZynoRMM managers can change its policy.

Enable or review discovery

  1. Open ZynoRMM > Settings > Network Discovery.
  2. Review the organization-wide policy. MSP users can select a managed organization to review its separate policy.
  3. Choose Enabled to turn on background discovery, Disabled to turn it off, or Inherited for an organization to follow the organization-wide setting.
  4. When changing an enabled policy, review the scan schedule and TCP port list, then select Save.

Discovery is off until a manager enables it. An organization can inherit the organization-wide policy or use its own enabled/disabled setting.

Review networks and devices

Open ZynoRMM > Networks. The network list shows each discovered network, its gateway, discovery state, and first/last-seen times. Select a network to review the attached managed endpoints and recent devices, including their observed address, names, vendor, configured open TCP ports, and last observation.

Discovery runs only on a verified physical Ethernet interface. It never scans Wi-Fi or cellular connections, and a network appears only after at least two active agents agree on its network and gateway. ZynoRMM automatically selects the scanning endpoint. To request an immediate scan, open the network and select Scan network.

Observation, Not Proof

An IP-only device is provisional and can change when DHCP assigns the address again. Open ports and device details are the results of the last observation, not proof of a current open port or a security finding. Discovery inventory ages out over time.

Find managed endpoints on a shared network

  1. Open ZynoRMM > Networks and select the discovered network.
  2. Review the Managed endpoints list.
  3. Select an endpoint to open it.

Use Scan network when you need a fresh device observation. The bridge selects a suitable managed Ethernet endpoint for the scan and reports the endpoint it used after the scan finishes.

Common issues

ProblemWhat To Check
No networks are listedConfirm the policy is enabled, two agents are online on the same wired network, and they report the same gateway.
A network has no active discovery statusThis can be normal while no eligible agent holds the background discovery assignment. Refresh after checking agent connectivity, or request an immediate scan from the selected network.
A device appears with only an IP addressIt could not be given a stable hardware identity. Treat it as provisional.
An expected endpoint is not foundOpen the correct discovered network, then check its Managed endpoints list. The endpoint must be managed and report that same network.
